Abstract

This work addresses the investment strategy known as Buy and Hold, which stands out for its long-term approach to acquiring financial assets, in contrast to more speculative methods. The strategy seeks to invest in companies with solid growth potential, keeping these investments for an extended period. The study highlights the advantages, such as the reduction of operating expenses and the simplification of the investment process, emphasizing the importance of patience in the face of market fluctuations. Based on renowned investors such as Warren Buffett and Philip Fisher, the work explores the effectiveness of the Buy and Hold strategy, showing that, historically, investors who adopted this approach achieved returns superior to the market's benchmark indices. The study also highlights the importance of fundamental analysis in asset selection, using indicators and metrics proposed by Benjamin Graham. However, he emphasizes that the strategy is not suitable for all investors, and it is crucial to consider objectives, risk tolerance and investment horizon. The work aims to investigate the effectiveness of the Buy and Hold strategy for small investors, analyzing the historical performance of renowned investors and proposing best practices for its application. The justification for the theme lies in the search to evaluate the real benefits of the strategy, especially for small Brazilian investors, considering the teachings of Bazin, Graham and Lynch. The study is divided into general and specific objectives, focused on verifying the effectiveness of the Buy and Hold strategy, analyzing the historical performance of renowned investors and exploring the applicability of the strategies for small investors. The methodology includes simulations based on the principles of these investors, aiming to provide recommendations for the small investor. The theoretical foundation covers the evolution of the Brazilian stock market, the meaning of Buy and Hold, its relationship with fundamental analysis and the relevant indicators for this strategy. Additionally, it highlights the investment strategies of Bazin, Graham and Lynch. The work culminates with final considerations, consolidating the results and contributing to the understanding of the applicability of the Buy and Hold strategy in the Brazilian context.
