Velhice e terminalidade: implicações na atuação do psicólogo hospitalar na busca pela autonomia da pessoa idosa

Abstract

This study aims to explain the implications in the performance of the hospital psychologist with the family and the health team in the search for greater autonomy of the elderly person, in their terminality process. Therefore, this work aims to evaluate the historical-social context in which the vision about aging was constituted, as well as its conceptual changes - from the beginnings to the present day - including the repercussions brought to the elderly and their family and , in view of this, to observe the implications in the performance of the hospital psychologist, with the family and the health team - understanding these as essential actors - in the search for greater autonomy of the elderly in terminality. The method used was theoretical and bibliographic, essentially qualitative, comprising, still, a research of a basic nature, with the objective of a descriptive study. The results obtained demonstrate its relevance as the importance of the role of the hospital psychology professional in support of the family and the health team is noted, as collaborators in the search for greater autonomy for the bereaved elderly, in the face of the losses of the disease and aging.
