Cimentos definitivos em prótese fixa: revisão de literatura

Abstract

Cements are the materials used to promote the bonding between the prosthesis pieces with the tooth. There’s diverse kinds of luting agents in fixed prosthodontics, and it’s usage, indications and categorizations vary according to many factors. The adhesion of these materials, can be by a mechanical or a chemical mean. Each luting agent has its own composition, properties and reactions, differing from each other and distinct recommendations. That does why having knowledge about these aspects is important, so that the professional can better select the luting agent. These materials each have specificities that deserve to be studied, because no cement can be used in all types of indirect restoration, thus justifying the need for knowledge about these materials. This study aims to study the cements in fixed prosthodontics, defining what is a dental cement, exposing the types of definitive cements used in the fixed prosthesis currently and presenting the indications and contraindications of such cements. The bibliographic survey was carried out in the PubMed, LILACS and SciELO databases and on the Google Academics platform. The descriptors that were used for the research are: "Dental Cements"; "Dental Prosthesis"; "Mouth Rehabilitation". Observing the different and varied specifications of luting agents and their efficiency depending on each case, the professional can correctly and efficiently define which agent best suits their cases and apply this knowledge to their clinical practice, having greater efficiency and success in their procedures.
