A relação entre o herpesvírus e lesões de origem endodôntica: revisão de literatura

Abstract

Virus infections are extremely common in the oral cavity and the most frequent ones associated with infections of the oral cavity belong to the Herpesvirus family, standing out for the alterations of the oral mucosa such as lips, cheek mucosa, oral floor, palate, tongue and gums. In endodontic infections, the role of bacteria as the main etiological factor is undeniable, but the role and participation of viruses remains uncertain. Therefore, the present literature review aims to describe the possible relationship between herpesvirus and lesions of endodontic origin. For this, searches for studies published on the same theme and indexed in the databases were performed: Virtual Health Library (VHL), Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), National Library of Medicine National Institutes oh Health (Pubmed) and Google Scholar, the following keywords are used in the search: Herpes Virus (Herpes Virus), Lesion (Lesion), Infection (Infection), Oral cavity. The presence of herpesvirus in periradicular lesions, especially Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and human herpesvirus 4 (HHV-4), stands out, emphasizing that herpesvirus can cause immunosuppression and may act as a modifier of periradicular disease, requiring further studies. to confirm the possible clinical applications of these viruses in endodontic infections.
