Abstract

Children with cleft palate present difficulties during breastfeeding shortly after birth. Although these children have the reflex movements of sucking and swallowing intact, one difficulty is in isolating the oral cavity and achieving negative pressure for adequate sucking. Thus, the general objective was: to present an importance for the humanized care of patients with cleft lip and palate. And as specific objectives: defined aspects concerning humanization; outline the legislation that benefits them. cleft patients and analysis of the role of the orthodontist regarding the orthodontic treatment of patients with cleft lip and palate The approach taken to a narrative literature review research where ,articles, books, course completion papers, monographs and theses about the theme being included materials from 2011 to 2020. Orthodontists play a key role in the care and humanization of patients with cleft lip and palate, together with an interdisciplinary patient rehabilitation team. Represents the conductor who sets the pace for dental and surgical procedures. The orthodontist monitors craniofacial growth and development, as well as correcting malocclusions that are more complex in patients with clefts. A significant number of patients have marked skeletal discrepancies in the anteroposterior, transverse and vertical directions. The professional and auxiliary user relationship solving a question about the challenge of having a professional with a certain degree of sensitivity to the user's suffering, but qualified with a higher level of attention and availability that allows the user to access more assertively.
