Luto materno no período gravídico-puerperal: as implicações psicológicas em mulheres que sofrem perda gestacional ou neonatal

Abstract

This article aims to analyzes the perception and coping of maternal grief in the pregnancy-puerperal periods. It’s main objective is to show the psychological repercussions that the gestational or neonatal loss can bring to women. The method used was exploratory and for this purpose, scientific articles, books and related documents were used. The results obtained show that, during the mourning process, women go through the most varied emotions such as shock, anger, envy, resignification, etc. Loss during pregnancy or post-partum can also cause damage to self-esteem and the way women look at themselves, possibly coming to doubt their capacity as a woman because they are unable to fulfill the function imposed by social pressure or their own will: to mother. The creation or adaptation of specific hospital wards for these women was suggested, so that they do not need to go through the pain of seeing a mother-infant relationship soon after the loss of their own baby. In addition, the importance of qualifying health professionals was discussed so that they are able to properly deal with the situation and provide the necessary support to these women and their families.
