Assistência odontológica hospitalar ao paciente com COVID -19: uma revisão de literatura

Abstract

The presence of the Dental Surgeon (DC) in the multidisciplinary hospital team aims to promote humanitarian assistance activities, palliative care, curative treatments for highly complex patients. Oral health is directly related to the patient's systemic health, both in harmony provide these patients with a reduction in the hospital stay, use of medications, risks of infections, morbidity, treatment of possible changes caused by COVID-19, and mainly by providing to the patient's greater well-being. Patients intubated with COVID-19 are extremely susceptible to the occurrence of secondary infections, such as Ventilation Associated Pneumonia (VAP). The use of mechanical ventilation and several medications contributes to the reduction of salivary flow, increasing the formation and colonization of biofilms by respiratory pathogens. Not to mention the immunological impairment observed in the patient COVID and the consequent occurrence of opportunistic oral infections, among other changes. Therefore, dental care is of fundamental importance not only for the guidance and supervision of oral hygiene, but for the implementation of preventive measures and treatments for oral changes that may aggravate the clinical condition of patients. In this way, contributing to the improvement of their general health, providing comfort and greater well-being.
