dc.description.abstractImprovements in the aesthetic and mechanical characteristics of dental ceramic materials, associated with the evolution of procedures for adhesion to the dental structure based on scientific research, have provided significant changes in restorative dentistry. The virtual design of an indirect dental restoration through computer software and its real transformation through the milling of ceramic blocks is the principle of the technology called CAD/CAM. The objective of this work was to carry out a literature review on indirect ceramic restorations made using the CAD-CAM system. Scientific articles in English and Portuguese from 2004 onwards were searched in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) and PUBMED databases, including review articles literature, clinical studies and laboratory studies. The improvement of software, scanners and milling machines, as well as the emergence of new ceramic materials, has enabled the construction of various types of indirect restorations, achieving satisfactory results in terms of fracture resistance, marginal adaptation and aesthetics. This new technology has been gradually used, not only simplifying, but also accelerating the entire production process for the acquisition of indirect ceramic restorations.en

dc.description.resumoAs melhorias nas características estéticas e mecânicas dos materiais cerâmicos odontológicos, associada à evolução dos procedimentos de adesão à estrutura dental fundamentada por pesquisas científicas, têm proporcionado mudanças significativas na odontologia restauradora. O desenho virtual de uma restauração dentária indireta através de softwares no computador e da sua transformação real através da fresagem de blocos cerâmicos é o princípio da tecnologia denominada CAD/CAM. O objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar uma revisão de literatura sobre restaurações cerâmicas confeccionadas através do sistema CAD-CAM. Artigos científicos em língua inglesa e portuguesa a partir do ano 2004, foram pesquisados nas bases de dados do Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS) e PUBMED, sendo incluídos artigos de revisão de literatura, estudos clínicos e estudos laboratoriais. O melhoramento dos softwares, dos scanners e das frezadoras, como também o surgimento de novos materiais cerâmicos, vem possibilitando a construção de vários tipos de restaurações indiretas, conseguindo resultados satisfatórios de resistência à fratura, adaptação marginal e estética. Esta nova tecnologia vem sendo gradativamente utilizada, não somente simplificando, mas também, acelerando todo o processo de produção para a aquisição das restaurações indiretas cerâmicas.en
