Manifestações bucais associadas a covid 19: revisão de literatura

Abstract

At the end of the year 2019, the SARSCoV2 coronavirus, causing severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), appeared in the Chinese city called Wuhan. The contamination of this virus spread exponentially, causing a serious pandemic. It can be transmitted by inhalation, ingestion, and/or direct mucosal contact with droplets of saliva, and besides systemic involvement, taste and smell disorders and oral lesions can occur. The symptoms and signs of the disease caused by the coronavirus go beyond respiratory syndromes, drawing attention also to oral health, because some of the oral manifestations are observed in patients infected with SARSCov2. This paper has as its main objective, to identify the main oral manifestations associated with COVID 19, point out the oral lesions, highlight the most affected sites of the oral cavity and emphasize the importance of including the Dental Surgeon (DC) in the multiprofessional team. We searched the platforms: SciELO, Google Scholar and Pubmed, and the descriptors used to search the journals in Portuguese: "COVID 19", "SARSCov2", "oral health", "manifestations and oral lesions", "dentistry"; and in English: "COVID 19", "SARSCov2", "oral health", "manifestations and oral lesions", "dentistry". Therefore, the etiology of oral manifestations and lesions in patients with COVID 19 is multifactorial, and their appearance may be related to the direct or indirect action of the virus on the oral mucosa cells. Therefore, the importance of dental care that ensures oral health.
