Dentes supranumerários: uma revisão de literatura.

Abstract

Supernumerary teeth are directly related to functional and aesthetic issues of the oral cavity, especially when considering the posterior region of the maxilla, characterized mainly by the local eruption of the tooth in the affected region, which can be identified as teeth occurring in the primary dentition or permanent dentition, whose manifestation can occur in a single or multiple way, unilateral or bilateral, being impacted or not, as they are often asymptomatic, even if the prevalence is due to mouth rashes, with men being the most affected, as it is in them that the predominance manifestations, ranging from 0.8% to 3.7% compared to women. They are usually easily diagnosed through routine exams, where panoramic radiographs stand out, however it is emphasized that for a more objective diagnosis it is necessary to carry out complementary exams, which will translate more faithful results which will help in the correct prognosis for patients. As for interventions, it is highlighted that each case is unique and the surgical intervention process is not always recommended, considering that it is only necessary if it does not put permanent dentition and dental roots at risk. The present study is configured for being of bibliographic nature where scientific articles were consulted using theoretical information in the academic databases. In this sense, the Scielo, Pubmed and Google Scholar databases were consulted, having the following terms as descriptors: supernumerary tooth, hyperdontia, surgery, etiology, diagnosis and complications, where studies between 2010 and 2020, in Portuguese, were selected or English and for having a direct association with the theme. Right after reading, 36 articles were selected that had a direct association with the case, and articles that were irrelevant to the work were discarded, leaving 36 articles for inclusion in the present study.
