A invisibilidade e o abandono feminino no cárcere: o machismo estrutural e suas consequências na vida de mulheres inseridas no Sistema Prisional Brasileiro

Abstract

The general goal of this work is to analyze the influence of structural male chauvinism on the situation of invisibility and abandonment of women in the Brazilian Prison System. The specific objective includes: discussing the gender issue in society, understanding the role of penal establishments and their relationship with female prisons, and analyzing gender discrimination, in addition to understanding how the invisibility and abandonment of incarcerated women are direct consequences of structural male chauvinism. Thus, the work consists of investigating how structural male chauvinism contributes to the scenario of female invisibility and abandonment in prison. As a hypothesis, the understanding was raised that the social structure contributes to the spaces being designed to serve men, and therefore the invisibility and the consequence of the abandonment of incarcerated women. The methodology adopted was the inductive method, analyzing specific cases to reach general conclusions. The procedural method used was the monographic one, with the intention of describing the social context of women in the prison system. To this end, technical procedures of a bibliographic nature were explored, with the aim of understanding the issues surrounding the theme of sexism in prison. It is concluded that invisibility and emotional abandonment in prison are understood as direct consequences of structural sexism and the patriarchal order, since they feed and sustain gender violence. This violence establishes, in a prejudiced way, the role of women in society, resulting in even harsher punishments for incarcerated women, who become doubly victims - of their crime and of the social and gender inequalities that oppress them, both inside and outside prisons.
