Atuação da ouvidoria da mulher do Ministério Público Estadual do Maranhão como um canal na rede de proteção à violência doméstica

Abstract

The female figure has always been surrounded by a conception of inferiority and subordination in relation to the male sex. It is within this context that mechanisms have been created to protect women both socially and within the family environment. In this regard, the Women’s Ombudsman Office of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the State of Maranhão, having been established as a specialized channel, is one such mechanism for the protection and defense of women. Therefore, this research aims to analyze whether the implementation and operation of the Women’s Ombudsman Office is complying with the provisions of Article 11-A, item IV of Regulatory Act 28/2022. To that end, the study addresses domestic violence and its various forms; the protection institutions present in the State of Maranhão; and the role of the Women’s Ombudsman channel in receiving complaints and its institutional partnerships. The methodology employed is the deductive method, with a documentary analysis of legislation and institutional reports of the prosecutorial body. As a result, it was found that the Ombudsman Office presents promising actions aimed at forming partnerships with other agencies; however, it still lacks broader visibility of its purpose as an institution, which is necessary for its effective institutionalization in the promotion of women’s rights.
